Here’s a look at the dash opened up, revealing the box that contains the A/C evaporator, heater core, and blowers, with one blower on each side.
If one blower fails, the corresponding ducts lose all airflow because the blowers are completely isolated from each other. The left blower supplies all four ducts on the driver’s side, plus one duct from the right blower. The remaining three ducts from the right blower serve the passenger side.
I’m fortunate that there are almost no additional accessories installed here, unlike some buses that are packed with extra equipment.
To remove the left blower, which is snug against the wall, the entire assembly needs to be shifted towards the door by about 4 inches.
I had to detach some brackets from the heater and A/C hoses. Note the petcock for bleeding air from the heater hoses when draining the antifreeze.
