      I have a Powertech generator, but I can’t find the dipstick mentioned in the manual—it’s supposed to be about 8 inches from the starter on the left side. The only way I can check the oil level is by removing a yellow cap on the right side, but there’s no dipstick there either, and I didn’t see any oil.

      What’s going on?

      My dipstick is located about 8 inches to the left of the oil filter, but it seems yours has a different setup. Check under that black solenoid to see if it’s hiding there. I believe these engines are from Kubota.

      Jon/Dale,

      You were right! I found the dipstick on the right side, nestled between the fuel filter and the stop lever and solenoid. My back was so sore from polishing all that copper tubing that I didn’t bend down far enough to spot the little yellow dipstick.

      It looks like the manual was incorrect.
