I know there have been previous discussions about the availability of Delo 400 oil, and options in Pensacola are somewhat limited. However, I noticed that our Sam’s Club has recently started stocking it, which may be the case for other Sam’s locations as well.

The Delo 400LE (Low Emission) is priced at $56.88 for a case of 6 gallons, which breaks down to about $9.48 per gallon. Of course, this might not be significant for those who do serious maintenance and purchase their oil by the barrel.

      Dale,

How often do you change your oil when using Delo 400LE?

I use Mobil Delvac 1 and typically change my oil every 15,000 miles. I can’t recall the exact cost, but it’s definitely more than $9.48 per gallon.

      Tuga,

In my opinion, Delvac is one of the best oils available for a 4-stroke diesel engine. The price of around $10 per gallon sounds about right.

I’ve also heard that the straight-weight oil that Detroit Diesel puts their name on is actually Delvac. I’ve been meaning to look into that because the multi-grade oils are definitely superior.

So, Dale… what are you buying oil for? The last I heard, you sold your bus and were on the lookout for another one. Did you end up finding one?

      Joe,

I’m a bit confused. I just checked my cost for Mobil Delvac 1, and it’s actually $25 per gallon, not $10. Are you saying you can find Mobil Delvac 1 for $10 a gallon?

Dale, you’re correct. I don’t own a bus anymore, but I do have a large pit. I noticed the oil and thought I’d share the information for everyone who does have a bus.

My apologies! You must be using synthetic oil. I’ve never used it in a diesel engine before, thinking it was too pricey compared to conventional Delvac, which I change every 10,000 miles. If budget allowed, I wouldn’t hesitate to give synthetic a try, though.

Absolutely, Joe! I use synthetic oil because it’s what Newell recommends. Since 1992, I’ve been using Mobil Delvac 1 (synthetic) 5W-40 in all three of my coaches, changing it every 15,000 miles, and I’ve had no issues so far.

Thanks for clarifying my misunderstanding of your earlier comment!
