      Hello everyone,

I recently acquired my first Prevost, a 1994 H3-40, and it’s been sitting idle until a couple of days ago.

Unfortunately, the previous maintenance on it was far from ideal. It seems like they may have broken the release cable for the spare tire compartment, as I can’t locate one anywhere.

Could someone explain how the release mechanism works? I’ve had a good look inside the compartment (no spare tire), but I can’t figure out where the release cable would attach.

I’m considering removing the windshield washer fluid container and crawling partway in there for a closer inspection…

      Thanks in advance!

      For future reference…

At least the 1994 H3-40 front tire compartment is opened with a wrench like tool found under the front passenger seat area ( in the bay).

There are two large nut looking things that stick out from the bottom of the bumper. Loosen those with the wrench and the front bumper just dropped down!

Interesting.   My 1988 XL had a similar setup with the 2 bolts going thru the center of the bumper.

I wonder exactly what models have the nuts in the bumper and not a cable release?

It’s a bit annoying, but not overly difficult to get the bumper released, but it does take a bit of strength!

I also want to see a cable release mechanism to see if I could add it to my Coach…

      DSM56,

On my ’93 Liberty H3-40, there’s a release mechanism I’ve barely noticed, but I’ll try to explain it.

In the middle of the bumper, behind and just above it, there’s a lever that you can access from underneath. It feels similar to the hood latch on my Ford pickups. Moving the lever toward the passenger side releases the latches at each end of the bumper, allowing it to drop.

I’m away from my coach until early January, so I can’t confirm whether the outboard latches are cable- or rod-connected.

Inside the dropped bumper, there’s a diamond plate step feature that I assume can be removed for a closer look. Once I’m back with the coach, I can check and provide a photo of the mechanism if needed.

Let me know what you’d like to know! Hope this helps.

I’m still early stages in my conversion, I mostly just wanted into the compartment to clean and check systems hidden up in there!

I’ll worry about changing the mechanism later!

      But thanks!!!
