      Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share that I’ve embarked on a project to renovate my deteriorating generator compartment. After dealing with disintegrating insulation and a fuel line fitting crack that soaked the floor and the insulation, it was clear that a major overhaul was needed.

After extensive research and recommendations from this forum, I decided to use Soundown products for the job. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

      • Insulation and Soundproofing: I installed Soundown’s 2″ vinyl/foam composite barrier with a white Mylar finish, securing it with stainless steel screws and fender washers. This will be covered with their QuieTech Perforated Aluminum, which has a 36% open area.
      • Floor Protection: To manage any future spills, I’ve fitted a 16 gauge stainless steel pan on the floor.

I’ve encountered a few challenges and made some missteps along the way, so I’ll be making some adjustments before posting final photos. For now, I’ve attached some pictures showing the issues I’ve faced and the progress I’ve made.

Looking forward to sharing the final results soon!

I had a failure with the Liberty corrugated exhaust hose in the generator box, so I recommend replacing it with stainless braided hose with welded ends. The one I chose is rated for 1500 degrees and 190 psi, and I bought it from Flextrol Corporation.

SoundDown is a great product. For exhaust, I use Geeb Industries’ stainless steel corrugated tube with welded ends, which is another excellent alternative to the spiral-seamed original flex pipes. It looks very nice. You know, Mr. Liberty designed that generator bay so that if you need to take the generator out quickly, all you have to do is disconnect the exhaust, and you can remove it and set it on the floor outside the door without disconnecting anything else. I considered the perforated aluminum sheets that SoundDown also sells but decided against them, thinking they would make cleaning more difficult.
