I’ve searched various forums but can’t find detailed instructions on accessing and draining the water heaters for a 1997 Marathon. I need to figure out a reliable method for winterizing since I don’t have heated storage here in Colorado (yet). Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can you access the hot water heaters? Marathon and Country Coach installed two 12-gallon hot water heaters in their coaches. If you have this setup, each unit should have drain spigots for winterizing.

I’m not sure where the drain spigots are or how to access them. My Marathon has a large panel with all the water circuits and individual shutoffs, which looks quite involved to remove.

Water heaters should be directly across from the water bay cabinet that you referred to, in the curb side bay.

Just open the pressure relief valve.

Got it—thanks to everyone. In the past, for other motorhomes, I’ve blown out the lines with air after draining the water heater, then poured RV antifreeze into the traps.

For Aqua-Hot owners who need to winterize, don’t just rely on blowing out the water lines with air. Water can settle in the Aqua-Hot coil, and if the copper line bursts, repairs could cost around $10K. Aqua-Hot doesn’t sell that part as a replacement.
